Young woman with a rose
French painter and illustrator Louis Adan (who became known as Louis Émile Adan), was born March 26, 1839 in Paris and died on February 5, 1937. He was the son of the painter Hippolyte Benjamin Adan.
Adan painted landscapes, genre scenes, still lifes and watercolors and was known for his empathetic depiction of the lives of women and children. He was made a chevalier of the legion of honor in 1892.
