Three Large Gien “Rambouillet” Stag Serving Patter

Gien “Rambouillet” Oval Serving Platter – Stag, France, 1960s–1970s

A large hand-painted oval serving platter from Gien’s prestigious “Rambouillet” service, designed by Jean Bertholle in the 1950s for the presidential hunting lodge at Château de Rambouillet. The platter depicts a vivid woodland scene with a red stag (cerf) striding through autumn foliage, set against the service’s distinctive cross-hatched ground. The scalloped edge adds to its decorative presence, making it a commanding centerpiece for table or display.

On the reverse, the platter carries the Gien castle mark with décoré à la main (used c.1960–1971), together with a decorator’s monogram.

The Rambouillet service was originally commissioned in 1955 by French President René Coty for use at the presidential hunting lodge in the Château de Rambouillet, and it has since become one of Gien’s most iconic and collectible patterns.
