Three Large Gien “Rambouillet” Serving Platters, France
Three Large Gien “Rambouillet” Serving Platters, France, Circa 1960
A striking trio of large scalloped-rim serving platters from Gien’s prestigious “Rambouillet” service, designed in the 1950s by Jean Bertholle for the presidential hunting lodge at Château de Rambouillet. Each piece is hand-painted with exceptional detail against the series’ distinctive cross-hatched woodland ground scattered with autumn leaves.
The group includes:
-
One platter with red stag (cerf), shown standing alert among autumn foliage.
-
Two platters with hunting trophies and arms, depicting a hunting horn, rifle, whip, and accessories arranged in still-life composition.
All three platters measure an impressive 34.5 cm (13.5 in.) across, making them substantial centerpiece pieces within the Rambouillet service.
