New Year Celebration with Carnival Motifs by Paul Racle

This line drawing is part of the Swiss artistic tradition of offering a New Year’s illustration to one’s friends at each passing year.  A new year’s message is written on the back: “ll the best as the year changes, to you from Paul Racle 1961/1962”  The image includes New Year’s party celebrants including a jester and a beautiful long-haired woman.

Paul Racle

July 11, 1932 - April 1, 2019

Paul Racle’s work was influenced by Surrealism and the Vienna School of Fantastic Realism.  Over a long and prolific career, he produced paintings, sculpture and graphic work in his studio in Bellikon.  He was married to the artist Barbara Racle-Fave and their daughter Jacqueline Racle Buehler is also an artist.
