L’Escamoteur – The Illusionist: French Satirical Engraving
Wonderful colored engraving by Morette after a work by Pasquier. A magician or illusionist entrances an audience at a French country fair. The distraction of the fascinated crowd allows a young pickpocket the occasion to show off his own sleight of hand. Printed circa 1810.
The French title “L’escamoteur” can mean magician, illusionist, conjuror, manipulator or pickpocket.
Dimensions: 42 x 33 cm
Condition: Mounted on another sheet of paper. Stain bottom center below the inscription. Otherwise vivid colors and very good condition with strong colors.
