Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi ( 1746 – 1827) was famous pedagogue and an innovative educational reformer.  His motto was “Learning by head, hand and heart”. He is responsible for almost completely ending illiteracy in 18th-century Switzerland.  He was deeply influenced by Jean-Jacques Rousseau and the ideas of the Romantic movement.
