Adorning the Term of Hymen – Engraving after Sir Joshua Reynolds

Three Ladies Adorning a Term of Hymen after the painting in the Tate Museum by Sir Joshua Reynolds.   Three women are adorning with flowers a statue of the Greek god of fertility and marriage.  Reynold’s use this alllegory to represent the daughters of Sir William Montgomery of Macbie Hall. Year: 1836. Signed in the plate.  Mezzotint engraving by by master engraver Samuel William Reynolds (British, 1773 – 1835) .
