Fritz Deringer (1903–1950) was a Swiss painter, graphic artist, and illustrator born on April 9, 1903, in Uetikon am See. From early in his childhood he was bound to a wheelchair due to a lifelong paralysis, a circumstance that shaped both his life and artistic path. Largely self-taught because formal art academy study was impractical given his disability, Deringer developed a distinctive voice rooted in natural observation and personal expression. He worked extensively on landscapes of the Lake Zurich region and the Swiss countryside, and also produced portraits, still lifes, and book illustrations, including contributions to Swiss educational publications.

Despite physical challenges, Deringer pursued creative growth and, with the aid of adapted travel arrangements, undertook journeys by motorcycle to Italy and France that broadened his visual repertoire. His work was shown in Swiss exhibitions during his lifetime, and continues to appear in regional collections and auction records, reflecting enduring appreciation for his thoughtful compositions and connection to place.

Stamp on the back – From the Estate of Fritz Deringer – signed by a member of his family.
