Enlightenment Period Engraving of a Tufted Owl
A finely detailed natural history engraving depicting an owl, standing alert on a tree stump, with wings folded and large forward-facing eyes emphasized. The artist has carefully rendered the plumage in fine crosshatching, showing the bird’s mottled feather pattern and distinctive “ear” tufts. To the right, a small anatomical figure illustrates a detail of the owl’s beak. This print comes from a scientific series of bird illustrations, intended for natural history study and classification in the Enlightenment period.
