Marshall’s Wallflower – Cheiranthus Marshallii

An antique hand-coloured botanical engraving of Cheiranthus Marshallii, or Marshall’s wallflower, published in The Floricultural Cabinet and Florist’s Magazine, circa 1850.

The illustration depicts the compact flowering head of this hardy garden hybrid, with densely clustered golden-yellow, four-petalled flowers, narrow green leaves and an upright stem. The botanical name is printed in elegant script beneath the image. Today the plant is generally classified as Erysimum marshallii.

Dimensions: 13.5 x 21 cm
Condition: Some age-related marking and wear, with small losses and binding holes along the right edge.
