Medieval style image of a ship in a harbor. Travelers arriving in the port are led by a strange figure with the head of a beast, carrying leaves that seem to symbolize bounty. Fish have thrown themselves onto the shore. This may be a depiction of visitors to the Land of Cockaigne, the medieval fantasy of a plentiful place of no cares or concern.
This piece is a bit of a mystery to us. It was purchased with another woodblock signed Jacobi which is clearly 20th Century and has exactly the same dimensions as that piece. We believe it may be a work by the same artist done in a medieval style. Printed on chainlinked hand laid paper. The two pieces would make a nice set.
