Victorinus of Camerino
Saint Victorinus shown hanging with his hands trapped in the cleft of a tree. To chaise temptations from his mind, Victorinus inflicted upon himself a painful penance: he had himself tied to a tree, with his hands crushed between the branches.
The text on this unique small antique Italian engraving reads: S. Victorini Conf. Camerinen Trima Penitentia.
Copperplate engraving on old chainlinked paper, cut to margins and mounted against a second sheet of paper.
