Beautiful architectural element in sculpted wood in the style of the Baroque period. This pediment can be hung over a doorway, an alcove, cupboards, etc. We recommend having your own family crest added to the center below the crown. We do not know the exact date of this piece, but believe it most likely dates to the late 19th or early 20th Century.

We have been unable to determine the name of the artist who created this beautiful expressionist scene of village houses and gardens.

There is a partial painting of an expressionist scene on the reverse and a tag from a framing store in Evolene in the Valais. The painter may have been a member of the Ecole de Saviese.

Swiss artist Tonio Ciolina (Bern 1898-1988) studied in France and was the student of André Lhote and other well-known artists.

He traveled extensively in Tunisia, Greece and lived for a while in Paris and Hamburg before settling in Bern. In 1931 he was a co-founded of the artist’s group “Der Schritt weiter” — “The Step Beyond”

Signed and Titled on the Reverse.

Paul-André Robert was a natural historian and painter and member of a well known family of painters from Biel / Bienne, Switzerland. He is well known for his studies of plants and insects, especially butterflies. This beautiful original oil painting in a striking frame depicts a bouquet of Christmas roses and pine branches on a red carpet.

The flowers in the painting are Helleborus niger, the black hellebore, an evergreen perennial flowering plant commonly known as the Christmas Rose because of an old legend that it sprouted in the snow from the tears of a young girl who had no gift to give to the Christ child. Traditionally it was believed that strewing the flowers on one’s doorstep could ward off evil.
